The painting depicts a little girl sitting on a swing among the clouds. At first, she was cutting butterflies out of paper, wanting to send them into the world as a sign of joy, lightness, and hope. She wanted them to reach people and remind them of the beauty of life.
Unfortunately, people started a war, so instead of butterflies, the girl began cutting out a dove — a symbol of peace. She wishes to send it among people like a quiet call for harmony, goodness, and reflection.
Her face is sad and thoughtful; she looks at the world with concern. She seems to understand that people often fail to appreciate what they have. They constantly want more, and from this desire conflicts, suffering, and wars are born.
The girl’s legs have been deliberately elongated to intensify the sense of perspective — as if we were looking at her from below while she floats high above in the space of the sky. Their darker tone is not accidental — the dark clouds surrounding the girl are reflected in them, symbolically referring to the unrest present in the world.
Her white dress emphasizes her purity, delicacy, and innocence. She appears like a figure carrying light among dark clouds. Wherever her feet touch the clouds, the darkness begins to give way to brightness. This suggest that goodness, peace, and innocence have the power to transform the world and turn heaviness into hope.
An important detail is the scrap of paper emerging from beneath the scissors — it has the shape of a butterfly. This shows that the girl began with joy and beauty, but reality forced her to create something more necessary: a dove of peace.
The opening in the sky, from which golden light flows down, symbolizes hope, the presence of Good, and a spiritual light breaking through the darkness of human suffering. The rays cutting through the dark clouds remind us that even in moments of deepest doubt, there is a path toward hope, and that even amid darkness, one can bring people light and peace.
The title of the painting, “Where Shadows Fade,” points to a place where darkness ends and brightness begins — a boundary where hope triumphs over doubt and where peace disperses the shadow of war.
